Buone Notizie: Returning To Italy

I just returned from Esperienza’s first tours to Emilia Romagna in three years, and I want to share some very good news…

Our favorite food paradise is not only thriving, it is more welcoming than ever. Beyond that, the region is one of the safest in Europe. Masks are still needed on trains and airplanes but with cases being so low and diminishing, even this obligation may be removed soon. And finally, as of last Sunday the United States relaxed its re-entry requirement. Which means it’s getting easier to travel internationally, especially to our beloved Emilia-Romagna.

I have spent decades exploring, and still Italy fascinates, inspires and surprises me every time I visit. Like a beautiful gem waiting to be discovered, Romagna holds a unique place in my heart. Nestled between the Apennines and the Adriatic Sea, it features a milder climate, abundant markets and much more diverse cuisine than its neighbor Emilia or other regions, plus history and art, fascinating towns and a wondrous colorful landscape. However, my heart is captivated most of all by its people, always happy to welcome us to their tables. Over the course of our trips, we met with many Romagnoli—chefs, winemakers, artists, artisans and musicians. All were proud Romagna ambassadors and shared with us their big hearts and warm hospitality.

Our Spring tour travelers experienced all of this firsthand; every day they connected and celebrated the generous people of this abundant land, learning the Italian language and immersing themselves in its food and culture. We stayed at elegant hilltop villas with breathtaking views which gave us an unexpected sense of peace and joy. I personally cannot wait to return to our quiet morning rituals and to the lovely sunset aperitivo.

And the foodie scene… the amazing creativity of young Italian chefs can truly flourish away from busy metropolitan areas in the small cities and villages of rural Romagna. The local farmers, cheese makers and vintners, all passionate and proud of their land create the foundation for an incredible exploration of flavors and techniques, fusing modernity and tradition, super local and faraway influences.

Faced with so much generosity, we happily give back as well. True to our mission Esperienza will make yet another contribution to Sasso Simone Simoncello regional park to help reduce our carbon footprint. And with our visit, we supported many family-based and small businesses in rural Romagna which were opening their doors for American visitors for the first time in years.

For all of these reasons and more I am so much looking forward to going back this fall. Whether you’re interested in immersing yourself in the beauty of the Italian language or experiencing the wonders of Romagna’s food culture, I invite you to join us. Come explore this wondrous Italian treasure with me!
