Traveling Safely in Italy

Though we’re excited to be traveling again, we also understand the need to make sure all of our guests, partners and vendors feel safe and comfortable. Here are a few reassuring specifics:

  • As of early November 2021, 84% of the population of Italy is fully vaccinated according to this Italian government source. In fact, The Economist magazine hailed Italy as the 2021 country of the year, in part due to its high vaccination rate, which is one of the highest in Europe. Emilia-Romagna, where our programs take place, has one of the highest rates of vaccination in Italy at 96%.

  • This information is supported by our personal experience traveling in Italy during the summer of 2021, where we found that Italians are very cooperative with the recommended health and safety measures.

  • In our itinerary planning, we make every effort to maintain safety throughout the trip. For example, we stay in smaller boutique hotels, eat outdoors whenever possible, etc.

Requirements for travelers continue to be relaxed, both for travelers entering Italy, and also when returning to the United States. As of June 1, 2022, proof of vaccination for Covid-19 is no longer required to enter Italy. (Click here for details.) In addition, as of June 12, 2022, the pre-departure testing requirement for U.S. citizens returning to the U.S. has been lifted. (Click here for details.) Masking requirements in Italy have also been relaxed. While still necessary on transportation and some indoor events, masks are no longer required at restaurants, bars and shops. Click here for details.
